This interactive discussion will share thoughts from the perspectives of the donor and financial and estate planning advisors regarding best practices in working together to achieve donor and institutional goals. We will share case studies and discuss the practical roles each play and how to work together to achieve the best solution for all parties.

Carla L. Lovell practices law with Sherrard Roe Voigt & Harbison. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Vanderbilt University School of Law. Ms. Lovell is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and has been listed in Woodward/White’s Best Lawyers in America in the area of Trusts & Estates since 2012 and Mid-South Super Lawyers in the area of Estate Planning and Probate since 2016. She serves on the Boards of YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee, Vox Grata Women’s Choir, Inc., and the Planned Giving Council of Middle Tennessee, and is a frequent lecturer on estate planning topics before community groups as well as other lawyers.
Jeffrey L. Carson, J.D., LL.M., CPWA® is Senior Vice President with Diversified Trust Co. in the firm’s Nashville office. As a member of the client services team, Jeff coordinates and leads the Firm’s Wealth Strategy planning services in the Nashville office. Immediately prior to joining Diversified Trust, Jeff was a Senior Vice President with U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, where he served as the senior fiduciary officer for the region. Additional previous experience includes serving as Of Counsel/Managing Attorney for the Tennessee office of Vasallo Law, P.L., a Miami-based boutique tax and estate planning law firm, as Vice President with The Northern Trust Company, as Assistant Legal Counsel for Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, and as an Attorney with Page, Kruger & Holland, PA., a boutique trial law firm in Jackson, Mississippi.
Jeff earned his B.A. degree at the University of Mississippi, a law degree (J.D.) from Mississippi College School of Law and the Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Estate Planning from the University of Miami Law School.
