Unconscious Bias Awareness in Our Lives and the Philanthropy World

Marguerite A. Fletcher, Esq., President, Fletcher Consulting

December 2, 2020

We all have unconscious biases. We come by them naturally. They are a result of how our brains work and our experiences in life. Similarly, the philanthropy world, leaders and fundraisers are not immune to the struggles of diversity and inclusion. Whether it is building a more inclusive board and staff or being aware of unconscious biases as we engage a more diverse donor and stakeholder community, recent events have brought stark reminders of the work in racial equity that is so critical to healthy institutions and communities. The goals of this highly interactive workshop are to increase our awareness of unconscious bias, to understand the impact of bias in our workplace and to learn skills for mitigating the effect of bias at work. We will strive to become more conscious through small group discussions, case studies and experiential exercises.

Marguerite A. Fletcher, Esq. is the President of Fletcher Consulting, LLC. She is a diversity consultant, keynote speaker and facilitator.
